El 30 noviembre de 1947 el Sr. Arzobispo Mons. Víctor Sanabria Martínez bendijo y colocó solemnemente la primera piedra del templo y en junio 1948 se comenzó la obra de construcción en el lugar donde anteriormente existía un oratorio (Eco Católico del 27 y 29 de junio de 1948).
Mons. Dr. Carlos H. Rodríguez Quirós da el decreto de erección de la Parroquia Medalla Milagrosa, dando como fecha de inauguración el 16 de julio de 1960 (libro de acuerdos número 12, folio 256, asiento 24).
