El 21 abril 1944 el Sr. Arzobispo Mons. Víctor Sanabria Martínez, da el decreto de erección de la Parroquia Dulce Nombre de Jesús, Tierra Blanca, Cartago, a partir de territorios antes pertenecientes las parroquias de San Rafael de Oreamuno y de Cartago, señalando como fecha de inauguración el 30 abril 1944 (Libro de Acuerdos Nº 11, folio 139, asiento 67).
El Templo fue consagrado por el Sr. Arzobispo Mons. Román Arrieta Villalobos el 22 febrero 1982.
